About Us

CHURCH is an independent design studio focused on making functional, enduring wardrobe staples that collect character over time. Guided by a strict material hierarchy, our products are designed to be worn daily and engineered to last decades.

Our collections are informed by our shared interest in sound, art, hospitality, and skateboarding. We deliberately release in small batches, and design with an uncompromising focus on integrity and longevity.

Our Principles

Our collections are built to earn their place in your weekly rotation. If a piece can’t be worn to the office, on a date, or while lounging at home, then it doesn’t leave our studio.

In a world of fast fashion and degrading attention spans, we hope that you reach for our garments constantly and hold onto them for decades.

We prioritise longevity over volume. Dead stock and surplus fabrics sit atop our design hierarchy as we intercept forgotten rolls of high-grade textiles and grant them a second life.

When surplus isn’t an option, we strictly use RWS-verified wools, organic cottons, and closed-loop semi-synthetics.

Quantities remain deliberately small. This is partly by choice, and partly due to the natural production limits of dead stock.

Material Hierarchy

Dead Stock and Surplus: Our first choice, whenever it's available. Not every garment can be made this way; the fabric simply doesn't exist in the quantities we'd need. But it stays at the top of how we think about every design decision.

Natural Fibres: Linen and wool sourced from accredited, ethical, and sustainable practices, including RWS-certified wool (the Responsible Wool Standard), chosen for their genuinely low environmental impact.

Organic and Good Earth Cotton: When dead stock isn't an option, we use cotton from certified, sustainably and organically farmed sources only.

Recycled Fabrics: Fibres reclaimed from wool and cotton products that would otherwise have been discarded.

Closed-Loop Semi-Synthetics: Textiles like Tencel, made from natural resources such as wood fibre through a closed-loop process, often blended with natural fibres like cotton.

Waste Reduction: We produce in deliberately small quantities, partly by choice and partly because working with dead stock naturally limits how much of anything we can make.

Upcycling: Anything unsold gets reworked by hand into a one-off piece and released back into the world as a special edition, available only in that single size and never remade. Further down the line, we'll also run a buy-back scheme: bring us a garment of ours, and we'll take it back in exchange for a discount on something new, then give the old piece a second life through upcycling.

Origins & Evolution

Established in 2018, CHURCH started as a cafe of only 30-square-metres. Incited by the boredom of cookie-cutter venues across Australia’s capital city, Canberra, three friends set out to build an authentic space for the community to gather. Grounded in hospitality, the venue served as an intimate living room for our combined interests and coexisting subcultures.

By 2022, that concept expanded into a dedicated retail environment. Broadening our capacity for global brand curation, this space served as the platform from which our independent design house evolved. This also marked the expansion of our retail offering beyond fashion into physical music, elusive print, and innovative accessories.

Today we remain actively embedded in our cultural ecosystem. From programming a diverse array of musical acts for parties, to curating listening activities, to flipping the script on your favourite hospitality venue, the same community-first principles dictate everything we do.

Our Store

A multi-faceted retailer that celebrates the ongoing dialogue between music, fashion, hospitality and skateboarding. Home to a diverse mix of globally sourced new and established brands that have been carefully curated to align with our values. Our retail space serves as a physical location for the conversation to take place ~ an exploration and celebration of seemingly disparate cultural counterparts coexisting harmoniously.
