Audio-Technica formed in a small Shinjuku apartment, founded by Hideo Matsushita. Inspired by the
emotional resonance of vinyl listening sessions, his initial aim was to widen access to analogue sound.
The success of his first cartridges, the AT-1 and AT-3, allowed the company to establish its headquarters
in Machida, where it remains.
